Easy tips to make packing easier for you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Packing is an integral part of house moving and you can\u2019t really afford to compromise with the quality of packing. Whether you have professional movers and packers<\/a> on board or you do it yourself, if the packing is substandard, then the goods could easily get damaged during the move, especially while in transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have worked with several moving companies and I am happy to share a few of the best packing tips and hacks used by professional moving services. And when you apply these tips while packing your goods<\/a>, you will be able to pack all your household goods safely and easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Start packing early<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to packing and moving, procrastination can be disastrous.\nYou can\u2019t really wait till the last moment and then rush to pack everything in\na hurry. Since you already know it\u2019s going to take time and effort, starting\nearly on gives you added advantage in packing and getting things organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid postponing thing for the next week or the next day;\nrather do what you can do today. You don\u2019t need to pack everything, weeks\nbefore the actual planned move date. But, you can start packing loose and smaller\nitems, especially those that you don\u2019t use in your day to day life. Arrange\npacking materials, pack one box, or just one item, but do it when you have\ntime, so that you don\u2019t have to put in a lot of efforts in packing at the last\nmoment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Don\u2019t pick and pack randomly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Not sure if you have seen professional movers do the\npacking, but they don\u2019t pick and pack items randomly. They get in to a room and\npack one room at a time, and don\u2019t even mix the items and that helps them do it\nin a much more organized manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you start picking and packing items randomly from all rooms,\nyou are going to have a very difficult time at the time of unpacking. You may\nnot even find items that you need just after reaching your new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, get in to a room, choose an area and then pack it. Once you are done, move to another area of the room and do the same. The idea is to get organized<\/a> when packing, instead of trying to pack items from all rooms, randomly and without any order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Label correctly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Even if you are very organized and you are packing one room\nor area of a room at a time, it is important to label the boxes correctly.\nProper labeling may look like not so important to you, but remember that it\u2019s\ngoing to be very useful at the time of unpacking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance all the cartons and moving boxes or the packed\nitems of your master bedroom should have the label \u201cmaster bedroom\u201d and then\npossibly the name of a few of the items or area of the rooms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the right label for master bedroom may look like \u201cMaster bedroom: Cupboard 1, bed linens, pillow cover,\u201d \u2013 this way it will be easier for you to locate any item when the moving boxes<\/a> are delivered to your new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Use proper cushioning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What we have discussed so far is actually to improve your\nefficiency while packing and unpacking. But as I said, the packing have to be\nsuper safe and secured, and there is no science here. All that you have to do\nis to ensure adequate good quality cushioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usually we people use old newspaper for cushioning, but I would\nnot recommend that, because the ink may bleed if it come in contact of any kind\nof moisture. Instead white packing papers instead, which is easily available in\nthe market. You can also use old clothes for wrapping and cushioning,\nespecially for valuable fragile items. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever be the case, the idea is to use adequate cushioning at the time of packing. If you are wondering about the number of layers of cushioning then that has to be decided by you, based on the nature of items you are packing, and also based at the availability of the packing materials<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Use moving boxes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Professional packer mover uses industry grade moving boxes,\nwhich is much more sturdy and strong and can sustain a lot of weight. Moving\nboxes are easily available in the market, and you should use these boxes,\nespecially for delicate or heavy weight items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People often arrange used card board boxes from the local grocery store, but these boxes are not mean to hold a lot of weight, and may not be suitable for long distance moving<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if you are unable to get moving boxes, then you may\nuse these boxes as well, but with a lot of precautions. To make these boxes\nsustainable, use packing grade tape, and tape it from all sides as that will\nprovide additional strength to these boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And another important safety tips to remember while packing using\nnormal cardboard box is to ensure that you are not overstuffing the box. Because\nwhen you overstuff, then the box may get damaged, and it will also be difficult\nfor you to lift these boxes because of extra weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Pack valuables separately<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Normal household articles like furniture, kitchen utensils, crockery\nand other home appliances should be packed with a lot of caution as it will be\nsent through the truck. But, when it comes to valuable items like the jewellery\nitems, ornaments and property documents and other such valuable, you should not\npack these in the moving boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should rather keep these items with yourself and pack\nthem suitably in the briefcase or do other arrangements. Such valuable items can\u2019t\nreally be sent along with household goods through the moving truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Know what can\u2019t be transported<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are certain items that can be packed and transported easily through the normal cargo truck. But, there are certain household goods which cannot really be packed and transported like cooking gas cylinder with gas, pets, other inflammable items etc. so check with the transporter about what is allowed and what not, and prepare accordingly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there are any items which can’t be moved, then you may consider selling household items<\/a> before moving. It will help you downsize the move and even cover some of the moving expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
