The festive of Holi is round the corner and you would like to prepare your home to set the right mood for this auspicious colorful festival of India. Holi is the holy festival of colors. Be it children or adults, everyone likes to enjoy this festival to the fullest. A Holi festival is incomplete without your family and friends joining you over the lunch. Good food, right décor and lots of color, water and music is all you need. Here’s how I am going to set the mood and prepare for this holi. I am sure it’s going to be fun.

Living room

This is the place where most of your guests will like to sit before getting outside to play Holi. Hence decorating it will be your first priority.
Replace the loose upholstery of your living room and set a colorful one instead to match the spirit of Holi. Bring lots of spontaneity and vibrancy to the living room by using colorful wall hangings, color-mottled curtains, floral wall motifs, bright colored rugs and bouquets of fresh flowers. You can use flower petals and put them into a transparent crystal bowl filled with water and place them on center or side tables. It will definitely give it an attractive look.

Kitchen

Make an attractive rangoli on its entrance (avoid if you have toddlers, as they might mess it up). Paste colorful paper-motifs on the lighting fixtures in your kitchen and transform your lights into a source of ambient lighting. Try hanging colorful pendant light in the center of kitchen ceiling to give a nice finishing to your decoration.

Holi special food

No festival or occasion is complete without offering a proper supper to the guests. There is an array of snacks that you can include in your Holi special menu, like dahi bhalle, namakpare, aloo puri, bhang pakore, methi mathri, matar ki kheer, shakarpara, thandai, masala mathri, palak bhajia, anarsa and kanji vada etc

Play Holi on terrace and lawn

Holi is the festival of color and it is celebrated outdoors usually in your terrace, lawns, balconies and gardens. Hence prepare these places for playing Holi. Flowers are the best way to decorate any place, hence it can come in handy here too; A big rangoli at your door entrance and on a place where people won’t be steeping on it and still be visible to everyone. A colorful paper buntings and festoons can also be hung at a nearby wall were people can see it. However, they may become useless as soon as Holi water falls on them. But it still looks good, at least pose for some selfies before staining them.

Don’t run out of water this Holi

Bring some fresh colorful towels and replace them with the old and monotonous towels that were placed earlier. Place scented soaps balls that come in multiple colors. Decorate them attractively on the washroom’s countertop and give your washroom a fresh and colorful look. You can also put small flower vases with colorful fresh flowers in washroom window to further spruce up your decoration.
